This is
the most important doctrine of all. The Bible presents us with a revelation
of God as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Mat. 28:19). Theologians
refer to this revelation as the Trinity. In contrast to the
Biblical doctrine of the Trinity is Modalism which teaches that God
has monolithically expressed Himself as the Father then as the
Son then as the Holy Spirit. This is a fundamental error.
Others
teach a version of monolithic deity by claiming that only the Father
is eternal and the Son (Jesus Christ) was created while the Holy Spirit
is not actually a person but a mere emmanation of God (like electricity).
This is also a fundamental error.
The Father,
Son and Holy Spirit are in perfect unity. They are co-equal and co-eternal.
There is order within the triune Godhead (Greek, theotes refer
to Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:9) where the Son submits to the Father
and the Holy Spirit serves as Christ's Agent (Eph. 2:18).
